‘Historical Heartthrobs’ Blog Tour + giveaway

Historical Heartthrobs: 50 Timeless Crushes -- from Cleopatra to Camus by Kelly Murphy

Historical Heartthrobs: 50 Timeless Crushes — from Cleopatra to Camus by Kelly Murphy

Valentine’s Day will soon be here so it is officially time to break out the sugary sweet books filled with first crushes, flowers, true love and — broken hearts, right? Imagine finding all the above in just one book (Ha! I sound just like an infomercial). Well, I can’t promise that you’ll find “all the above” in HISTORICAL HEARTTHROBS by Kelly Murphy with Hallie Fryd but what you will find is an eclectic mix of historical figures dating as far back as the birth of Cleopatra (70/69 BCE-30 BCE) all the way forward through time to the birth of Benazir Bhutto in 1953.

Each of the 50 entries includes a full-page photo (so those seeking merely eye candy can decide crushworthiness in a heartbeat). Also included are details of the major area of influence and prominent quotes (to aid the brainiacs in determining crushworthiness, of course). Next, you’ll find information about relationships, liaisons and style (to aid the pop culture divas and dudes in their assessment). Last but not least, the “heat factor” section tidies up the entry with a down-and-dirty paragraph length summation with 5-star rating.

There are so many activities going on throughout this tour that I decided to publish another post dedicated to my interview with Kelly Murphy.  You’ll find it here: Interview with Kelly Murphy, author of ‘Historical Heartthrobs’.

From Zest Books:

This book compiles photos and life stories of 50 of the sexiest men and women from history and asks the essential question: Would you really want to date them? Some are artists, some are scientists, and many are political or military leaders, but all have had a lasting impact on human life—and a sizable impact on their admirers as well. Each entry describes the period in which the heartthrob lived and includes essential stats, hilarious sidebars, and, of course, a “crushability” ranking: a measurement of how crush-worthy these people really are, based on their relative levels of heroism (or villainy).

“A fun book for any reader, with a balanced mix of historical anecdotes, romantic trivia, and witty, accessible writing.” —ForeWord Reviews

“(A) broad-ranging, tongue-in-cheek guide to the hotties of history….With engrossing photos, lively quotations, and witty writing, it’s “the complete package”—just like Nellie Bly.” —Publishers Weekly

“Surely a tantalizing start for a beginning researcher.” —Booklist
