Modeling Fear

by Kimberly Bower

My mother once told me

“You’re so beautiful you could be a model.”

But she didn’t enter me in contests, enroll me in classes, order a portfolio

“What if you don’t like it?”

A model never photographed is no model at all

An opportunity unrealized

Do I say “thanks for telling me,” or should

I take back everything I’ve said?

Today I used the instant poetry form “Go From First Line to Last Line” from Educational Technology Training Center (ETTC).  In this template “My mother once told me” is the given first line and “I take back everything I’ve said” is the last.
