Knitting in the Details offers patterns for hats, scarves, shrugs, berets, vests, cardigans and purses. The look is feminine, flattering and colorful. These 24 projects are small in size but big in possibilities. I like options. I like to see how a change in colorway alters the outcome. This book shows you options. For example, there is a vest pattern “Esme” that can change from casual to glamorous just by emphasizing a different part of the pattern when you knit. In one of the hat patterns, “Poppy”, the author has drawn colors from an antique brooch. She knits the hat in subtle stripes, attaches the antique brooch on the side and further embellishes it with knitted flowers and sequins. Using the same pattern, the author goes simple but bold with a dark two-color hat. The crown is dark purple with a contrasting rosy pink edging. A large knitted flower in the same colors embellishes the side.
If you like to embellish your handmade projects, whether accessories or wearable, and you like to get new ideas from other crafters you will like this book. If you’re new to embellishing, the author offers guidance to get you started.
I ordered this book from my library but found that there were too many patterns that I wanted to make so I decided to buy it. I’m glad I did.
